From a young age, Ngonyama demonstrated a passion for entrepreneurship. She sold fruit and vegetables in her community and dreamt of running her own business. This drive led her to pursue a career in the financial services sector, where she saw an opportunity to bring balance and diversity. Ngonyama founded Sinayo Group in 2016, a boutique financial services firm that has since created numerous career opportunities for black women in the industry.
Ngonyama’s commitment to empowering others extends beyond her business ventures. She established the Babalwa Ngonyama Foundation, which aims to provide individuals with access to career opportunities that may otherwise be difficult to attain. Through her foundation, Ngonyama has supported young African leaders and business owners, helping them thrive in various financial sectors.
One of the foundation’s flagship programs, Project Funda, focuses on creating financial services and leadership career opportunities for black individuals. The two-year program provides high-level training, mentorship, and networking opportunities for participants. Since its launch in 2016, Project Funda has supported over 80 graduates, equipping them with the skills they need to excel in the financial services industry.
In addition to her foundation, Ngonyama is also a co-founding president of the African Women Chartered Accountants (AWCA) organization. Through coaching, mentoring, bursaries, and career opportunities, AWCA accelerates the development of black women chartered accountants.

She has received numerous accolades, including being named one of Forbes and Choiseul’s 100 Africa and being recognized as one of the Top Women to Watch by The Star.
