Luiz Carlos Trabuco – CEO And President, Bradesco Bank Brazil

Born in Marilia, Brazil, Luiz Carlos Trabuco is the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of one of Brazil’s largest banks, Bradesco. Ever heard of one person working for only one company? Luiz Carlos Trabuco has been working in Bradesco for the last 40 years and counting. It’s no wonder a bank’s executive talking about him said, ‘Trabuco was born to work for Bradesco.’ It must be his professionalism, wisdom, and persistence that has seen him develop such a successful career path as outlined below.

Career Path

In 1969 at just 18 years, Trabuco started his banking career at Bradesco Marilia’s branch. Two years later, he moved to São Paulo – the banks headquarter office. Here, his career path shot up the hierarchy levels. In 1984, he became the bank’s director of marketing. Between 1992 and 1998, he served as executive director and president of Bradesco’s private pension company. In 1999, he became the executive vice president. In 2003, he became the president of the insurance company. Trabuco also served as a member of the bank’s board of directors between 1999 and 2005. Currently, he is the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banco Bradesco, SA. Between 2003 and 2009, he was the Chairman of the Bradesco Seguros Group, and in 2009, was elected as Chief Executive Officer of Bradesco Bank, Brazil’s second largest bank.

It was his productive work at the Bradesco’s Insurance Group in 2003 that saw him rise to the presidency. Under his management, the insurer doubled up in size and merged its leadership in Brazil. With a 25 percent market share, the insurer then became the largest in the Latin America. The insurer group share increased to about 35 percent net income. The increase was 10 points percentage higher compared to when Trabuco took over the group in 2003.

The Rise to Presidency

Bradesco bank’s 64 years of history had only seen three people hold the presidency before Trabuco: the bank’s founder, Amador Aguiar, Lázaro Brandão, and Cypriano, who left the presidency for him in March 2009. Different from other bank executives who are graduates in economics, administration, engineering, and accounting, Trabuco holds a philosophy degree from the University of São Paulo and a post graduate degree in Socio-psychology from the School of Sociology and Politics of São Paulo.

Leading by Example, Luiz Carlos Trabuco arrives at the bank about 7 o’clock in the morning and works till 6:00 p.m. He is said to extend his business working hours through business dinners. Some of his most notable awards and recognitions include being named The Insurance Person of the Year, both in 2006 and 2007. In 2009, his name found a way through the List of the 100 most influential Brazilians. In 2015, Trabuco was titled the Entrepreneur of the Year in the finance category.

Despite trailing behind Itaú Unibanco bank and picking leadership in unfavorable economic times, Trabuco is bent on taking Bradesco to the highest levels and making it the largest Brazilian bank. He has already worked at the bank long enough, is professional, and has the experience.
